GILBERTO Teodoro, the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD’s presidential bet, said late Wednesday he would be an ingrate to turn his back on President Gloria Arroyo, who gave him the break in government, but that he could not be dictated upon if he became president.

He told a forum that no special treatment would be accorded Mrs. Arroyo, and that the party, which he heads, would treat her like any member and like any congressman if she won as a Pampanga representative next year.

“I think it’s un-Filipino to turn your back on the person who gave a 43-year-old man a break, and who did not interfere in doing his job which resulted in the cleanest and one of the most transparent administrations in the Department of National Defense,” Teodoro said of Mrs. Arroyo, who recruited him in 2006 to be her Defense chief.

Teodoro, the only lawyer among the presidential bets, is now the youngest contender at 45 years old.

“For me now to say I will turn my back and bite the person who gave me a break will be the height of ingratitude,” he said.

“But this is not to say I can be dictated upon.” Christine F. Herrera
