MANILA - Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto and running mate vice-governor Jose Antonio “Marc” Leviste II are seeking fresh terms in next year’s elections.

Santos filed on Tuesday afternoon her certificate of candidacy (CoC) for governor at the local office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Batangas.

The actress-turned-politician, who originally belonged to Lakas-Kampi-CMD of the administration, will now run under the Liberal Party (LP) of presidential aspirant Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

The first female governor of Batangas was accompanied by her husband, former senator and former socioeconomic planning secretary Ralph Recto, and her supporters.

Aside from Santos, Leviste, who is seeking reelection, also filed his CoC along with LP’s bets for board members in the province including movie actor Christopher de Leon.

Santos will go against former Batangas governor Armand Sanchez of the Nacionalista Party.

Born Maria Rosa Vilma Tuazon Santos, Santos entered the world of politics in 1998 when she ran and won as mayor of Lipa City in Batangas. She completed her 3 terms as town mayor before running for governor in 2007.

Edu Manzano, the vice presidential bet of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, is Santos’ first husband. They have a son together, television host Luis Manzano. -abs-cbnNEWS.com. With a report from Arnell Ozaeta, ABS-CBN Southern Tagalog
