Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Wednesday urged Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III to ready himself in accepting defeat in the event he loses the presidential race to Nacionalista Party (NP) presidential candidate Sen. Manny Villar, saying he should be man enough to do so.
He made his call as he criticized the LP for incessantly floating dire scenarios such as electoral fraud and failure of elections.
According to Marcos, who is running for senator under the NP banner, it is obvious that the LP is trying to condition the minds of Filipinos that if Villar wins, it would be through massive cheating.
“He (Aquino) should be man enough to accept defeat should Villar win. Although he consistently comes up on top survey after survey, his lead may not translate into actual votes,” Marcos said.
“It seems that his mindset is either he wins or he will be cheated. That’s unfair to his rivals,” he added.
Marcos said that if Aquino loses, it only means one thing – the people do not want him to win.
“He should concede if he loses. Stop the threat of people power. Filipinos are sick and tired of people power,” Marcos pointed out.
“Election is the essence of democracy – that is the point on why we are living in a free, democratic nation with citizens that aren’t just stagnant members; they have the power to choose their leaders. Therefore, Sen. Aquino must respect the mandate of the people.”
Marcos was quite confident that Villar, not Aquino, will emerge victorious in the coming presidential elections.
“I strongly believe majority of the people will vote for Villar to be their next president,” he said.
