Iloilo City, Iloilo — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo yesterday said Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Jose Melo assured her during the National Security Council Meeting held earlier in the day that "there will be no failure of elections" in May 2010.

“Yes, we are ready and there will be no national failure of elections," the President said, quoting Melo, in her speech during the inauguration rites of a new hospital building at the Western Visayas Sanitarium in this town, 16 km northwest of Iloilo City.

She said the “very important topic” on the readiness of the automated elections was taken up during the NSC meeting in Manila, yesterday morning, which she presided and which was attended by Cabinet members and legislators.

“We were very happy to hear from Chairman Melo and the answer is: Yes, we are ready and there will be no national failure of elections,” Arroyo said.

The President said the congressmen and senators took up two and a half hours of the meeting, asking questions about the automated polls. INQUIRER
