Lakas-Kampi standard-bearer Gilberto Teodoro Jr. kept his lead in the latest round of the online survey of presidential candidates in the social networking site Facebook.

But the big news is the surprise ascent of televangelist Eddie Villanueva to second place and the sharp decline of Liberal Party’s Benigno Aquino III from second to fourth place.

Voting results for Round 8 of Facebook’s Election 2010 had Teodoro, the 1989 Bar topnotcher, maintaining his lead with 34.17 percent of the votes.

Villanueva had 30.92 percent, followed by Senator Richard Gordon at 17.80 percent, and Aquino, 12.04 percent.

Teodoro surged to the top of the rankings during Round 5 last month where he gained 46.07 percent of the total 2,062 votes; his cousin Aquino had 20.85 percent.Saranggani province Gov. Miguel Dominguez said the improved showing of Teodoro in recent surveys was a reflection of the maturity of the voting public.

“His message is sinking in: He has the best platform of government to build the economy, create jobs and fight poverty, and bring improved public health care and education to our people,” Dominguez said.

Teodoro also placed second in the survey done by the Makati Business Club, something that surprised even the political strategists of the ruling party since the MBC was seen as more affiliated with the opposition.

Teodoro’s rating also climbed to 5 percent from 3 percent last month in the latest poll commissioned by Standard Today.

“Teodoro voters resolutely see him as smart, intelligent and capable,” Pedro Laylo, the broadsheet’s resident pollster, said.

Teodoro said he viewed the survey results as “a guide and a challenge” for him to strive more.
