MANILA, Philippines – Liberal Party standard-bearer Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III said he would convince Sen. Francis Escudero to join the LP, now that the latter has abandoned his 2010 presidential bid.
"Senator Escudero is greatly admired for his work as a legislator both by his colleagues and by his constituents. I truly believe that he will be a significant contribution to the people's campaign, especially in rallying the youth to support our advocacy for reform. I am grateful for his friendship and I hope that I can convince him to join our team," Aquino said in a statement.
Escudero this morning announced that he is abandoning his presidential bid.
"I commend the decision of Senator Chiz Escudero to forego his plans for the presidency in the 2010 elections
. It is a choice based on principle and on the need to promote a kind of leadership that goes beyond usual politics. It demonstrates his genuine desire to fulfill our common vision of restoring good governance in our democratic institutions," Aquino added.
