MANDAUE CITY, Cebu – Members and officials of Cebu’s ruling party, One Cebu, have unanimously decided to support the presidential bid of Lakas-Kampi-CMD candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro in the 2010 Elections.

The decision to support Teodoro for President was made during the party’s general convention yesterday, Saturday. The event was attended by over 2,000 local officials and new party members, at the Cebu InternationalConvention Center (CICC).

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who was unanimously reelected as president of One Cebu during the convention, said the party is supporting Teodoro because “the administration candidate has what it takes to be President.”

She said Teodoro has the capability, the commitment, and the intelligence to help push the country forward. She, however, did not announce the party’s vice presidential candidate as she earlier said that party members will have the option on whom to support for the rest of the political positions up for grabs in next year’s national and local polls.

Teodoro and running mate, showbiz personality Edu Manzano arrived at the CICC before Garcia’s announcement of the party’s presidential choice. Observers said they were already expecting that the party will support the administration presidential candidate considering that Garcia is currently the provincial chair of Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

For his part, Teodoro thanked One Cebu, whose members include board members, municipal mayors, councilors, and even barangay officials, and is considered to be the largest political party in the province. The administration Presidential bet promised to do his best so as not to frustrate the Cebuanos in supporting him in his Presidential bid.

He also said he will also work harder to campaign in other provinces to get more sympathizers so that the support of One Cebu will not be put to waste.

Cebu, a vote-rich province with more than 2.2 million voters, delivered 1.1 million votes, clinching the victory of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in the 2004 presidential elections against movie actor Fernando Poe Jr.

Garcia earlier said that once the party has chosen its presidential candidate to support, it will do its best to stick with the candidate “come hell or high water” and will urge other party members to support the party’s choice.
