MANILA, Philippines – Not all is doomed yet as far as the political alliance between the Nacionalista Party (NP) led by Senator Manuel Villar and the militants seeking senatorial seats in the May 2010 election.

Villar, the standard-bearer of NP, said he would continue to talk with Representatives Satur Ocampo of Bayan Muna and Liza Maza of Gabriela in an effort to come into an understanding with them for next year’s election.

He said that he would sit down with the party list lawmakers within the week to iron out their misunderstandings.

“Maganda ang unawaan namin nina Ka Satur at ni Liza at magkasama pa rin naman kami. Meron lang kaming inaayos pa at hindi kami naghihiwalay talaga, nililinaw lang namin, meron lang kaming tini-thresh out na mga bagay (We have good relations with Ocampo and Maza. We are still allies. We’re just threshing out and clearing some matters),” Villar told reporters in an interview in Pasig City Wednesday.

Asked if the two lawmakers still has a slot in the NP’s senatorial slate, he said, “basta kami magkakasama at binabalangkas lang namin kung paano naming gagawin ‘yan (we are still allies and we’re just trying to iron out the plans and how to do that).”

On Tuesday, Ocampo and Maza announced in a news conference that they are running as independents following failed talks with Villar on their possible inclusion in the party’s slate.

Villar’s alliance with the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan of Ilocos Norte Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. did not sit well with the militants, who carries among their platform the recovery of the ill-gotten wealth of the Marcoses and the compensation of human rights victims under the Marcos dictatorship.

Rep. Marcos is also running for the Senate under the NP.

But Ocampo and Maza also said that things are not final yet and that the situation remains fluid.

In Pasig, Villar officiated the oath taking of mayor Vicente Roberto Eusebio and vice mayor Rosalio Martirez as new members of the NP. The two were former members of the administration party Lakas-Kampi.

From Pasig City, Villar motored to the NP headquarters at the Laurel House in Mandaluyong City to meet another batch of new party recruits. A staff of Villar said a total of 176 local officials from Regions 1, 2, 3 and the Cordillera Autonomous Region joined the NP, together with several more local officials from the Visayas and Mindanao.

Villar said the NP is now “very well represented’’ in Metro Manila and the provinces.
