Former President Joseph Estrada said Saturday he will not stop anyone from the movies who will support other presidential candidates other than him because of loyalty to relatives of other aspirants citing that freedom to choose is the heart and soul of democracy, adding that “that is what friends are for, to stay with and behind each other in both the good and the bad times.”

“That’s completely okay with me because such a gesture is a laudable character trait of loyalty as friends that should be admired and commended,” said Estrada who is well-known for his loyalty to friends he has kept to this day since his days as a movie megastar.

This was Estrada’s reaction to a report that Ai-Ai de las Alas, his leading lady in his come-back movie “Ang Tanging Pamilya,” said she may support Sen. Benigno Aquino III because of her friendship with his sister, Kris Aquino, also a television and movie actress.

“Okay lang yun,” said Erap, the name Estrada is popularly called by his legions of admirers and supporters, and who is a FAMAS lifetime awardee. And besides, Erap added, both Noynoy and Kris are my good friends, who deserve the support of colleagues from the movies.

Estrada made the comments when asked, on the eve of his scheduled press conference with movie reporters, to discuss the forthcoming premiere of his movie set to be shown in theatres nationwide by November 11.

The film also stars Dionisia “Mommy” Pacquiao, mother of boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao.

The movie “Ang Tanging Pamilya,” according to Estrada is a comedy, describing its theme as a tribute to the Filipino family highlighting fatherly love to children and the importance of respect for their elders.

When asked why he decided to do a comedy instead of drama, Estrada pointed to the prevailing economic hardships being endured by millions of Filipinos.
