Admin party to test Vilma’s 'loyalty' on Monday

Amid questions about her political loyalty, the ultimate test of Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto’s political colors may come on Monday.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, the administration Lakas-Kampi-CMD’s national president, said Santos-Recto has been invited to attend a party mass oath-taking in Batangas Monday.

“Well, mukhang ganoon na nga yata. Si Nani inabisuhan si Governor Vi. Malalaman namin, harinawa tunay ang pagkakaisa namin (Well, it certainly seems that way. Former Justice Secretary Hernando Perez advised her about it. We’ll know the real score by then, and we hope our unity still holds)," Ermita said in an interview on dzRH radio Saturday.

But for now, Ermita downplayed reports that Santos-Recto will bolt the Lakas-Kampi-CMD and join the Nacionalista Party of Sen. Manuel Villar Jr.

“Wala pang balita (We haven't heard any such news)," he said of claims that Santos-Recto will switch parties.

Santos-Recto chairs the Batangas chapter of Lakas-Kampi-CMD, but some sectors questioned her party loyalties when she declined to run as the administration’s vice-presidential bet.

The Batangas governor’s husband, former senator and socio-economic secretary Ralph Recto, is allied with Villar’s NP.

Interestingly, Santos-Recto has a child with former Optical Media Board head Eduardo “Edu" Manzano, who is the running mate of administration standard bearer Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

Ermita said Monday’s oath-taking will take place at the University of Batangas which, he noted, is near the provincial capitol. - GMANews.TV
