MANILA - Senator Francis 'Chiz' Escudero is expected to announce his plans for 2010 at Club Filipino on Wednesday, his office and an adviser said Tuesday.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel, Lito Banayo, political adviser of Escudero, belied speculations the expected standard-bearer of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) will no longer be seeking the presidency in the May 2010 polls.
"He is not dropping out and he will make his firm intentions known to the public tomorrow," Banayo said.
He also belied speculations that Escudero is not in favor of NPC partymate Sen. Loren Legarda as his vice-presidential candidate.
"No, I don't think that is true. What we've heard is that several other candidates have been trying to get Sen. Loren Legarda as their vice-presidential teammate," Banayo said.
Banayo, a former adviser of Sen. Panfilo Lacson, said Escudero will be meeting NPC "bigwigs" Tuesday evening "to lay out their plans vis-a-vis his plans."
"He'll make his announcement tomorrow, and likely, before the deadline imposed by Comelec, which is November 30, there will be an announcement from the party adopting him and Sen. Loren as their official candidates," he said.
Meanwhile, Legarda on Tuesday admitted that she has not been meeting with Escudero to discuss their expected tandem for the 2010 polls.
Legarda denied she was courting other presidenital aspirants. She said she was firm in seeking the vice-presidency and that she was just waiting for the formal announcement by the NPC.
