It’s final: Actor-TV host Richard Gomez will seek a congressional seat in Ormoc City in the 2010 elections.

He announced this during the press huddle for the new season of “Family Feud,” adding that he chose Ormoc because “’yon na rin ang naging hometown namin ni Lucy [Torres, Richard’s wife].”

He emphasized that he is not running for public office for the sake of doing so.

One enters politics because it’s what one wants to do and not just to keep with tradition. And before doing so, one should first have a vision for the people, he said.

Richard believes he has a moral obligation to help his countrymen.

“If there’s a chance to help, I always take it. Mahirap na bansa ang Pilipinas kaya kung ano ang tulong na kaya kong ibigay sa kanila, I do it,” he said.

To prove his sincerity in serving the people, Richard pointed out that even without publicity, he helped out his friends who were victimized by typhoon Ondoy.

“Konting tulong in a very quiet way [kasi] hindi ko naman kailangang i-broadcast [pa yung mga ganun],” he said.

Meanwhile, Richard is glad that he is back to hosting “Family Feud”.

“It’s a wonderful experience kasi we were rating very well doon sa first two seasons namin. Actually, I’m glad na masaya ‘yong mga tao with the way we handled the show. Parang it’s another side of Richard Gomez na nakita nila at hindi katulad ng napapanood nila sa drama soaps na akting-akting. Here [in ‘Family Feud’], I’m just being myself.”

Richard admitted that he misses acting on TV soaps and in movies but he’s biding his time.

“Gusto ko kaya lang katatapos lang namin. Kapapasok lang ng mga bagong shows sa season na ito. They [GMA-7] are preparing for another season. Hopefully, kasama ako sa ibang shows nila,” said he.

On accepting film projects, Richard said he has become choosier than ever.

“ I will [accept a movie project] ‘pag may magandang material. I’m more of a ‘material guy’ pagdating sa movies,” said he who was last seen in the film “Bente” starring Sen. Jinggoy Estrada.
